Sashiko I – One 3-Hour Session
Sashiko, which means “little stab,” is an ancient Japanese embroidery technique originally used to add strength and warmth to wearers in northern Japan. In the last 200 years, Sashiko has become more decorative and gives homage to traditional Japanese design motifs. In Sashiko I, you will learn the fundamental techniques behind this wonderful art and will work on your precision and consistency. This uniformity will help you make beautiful sashiko creations.
Experience Level: Any
Prerequisites: ability to hand stitch

Sashiko II – One 3-Hour Session
In Sashiko II, you will take the fundamental techniques that you learned in Sashiko I and run with them. In this class you will learn to create designs that are compatible with sashiko. You will also learn to transfer your own designs to Japanese Indigo in multiple ways. You will learn about other possible uses for sashiko besides panels and will learn about alternative materials to use with your sashiko creations.
Experience Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Sashiko I
Materials: Indigo Yardage of desired size (which can be purchased directly from the Cornwall Yarn Shop), Sashiko Needles, thread and thimble (which you should have from Sashiko I), pictures or images to transfer (This is optional: If you are creating geometric patterns, you will not need any additional images.)

Introduction to Machine Sewing – Two 3.5-Hour Sessions/One All-Day Class
This Introduction Class is meant to familiarize the student with their own sewing machine while showing them a plethora of techniques from basic and advanced stitches, inserting zippers and patchwork. This class will cover everything on your sewing machine from thread tension to needle types. This is a great class for any beginner or for someone who hasn’t used a sewing machine in a while.
Experience Level: Beginner

Materials: Sewing Machine, Machine User’s Manual and any feet and accessories that came with machine
Price: $90, plus $30 Materials fee
Introduction to Machine Piecing and Quilting (The Sampler Class) – Sixteen 3-Hour Sessions/Twenty-four 2-Hour Sessions
This Introduction Class is geared to the beginning quilter or someone who curious about the craft. This class takes the student through many quilting techniques starting with the basics and moving to the more complex. Each technique builds on itself through a series of patchwork blocks. After completing this class, the student will have made their own machine-pieced quilt top and will be on their way to finishing it.
Experience Level: Beginner to Basic
Prerequisites: basic knowledge of how to use your sewing machine
Materials: 1 ½ yards each of five coordinating 100% Cotton fabrics, Neutral Thread and bobbin, Sewing Machine, Machine User’s Manual and any feet and accessories that came with machine
Price: $175, A list of materials required to complete your quilt will be provided at or before the first class session, all additional materials included
Design Your Own Block – One 4-Hour Session
Learn the ins and outs of how to design your own original patchwork and appliqué blocks. This is a great class for anyone who wants to change up their quilting routine.
Experience Level: Basic to Advanced
Prerequisites: basic knowledge of the patchwork process
Materials: 4 or 5 coordinating Fat Quarters of your choice, neutral thread and bobbin, your sewing machine and User’s Manual
Price: $35, all additional materials included
Storm at Sea – One 4-Hour Session
This is an intermediate-level class that explores the many uses of the “Storm at Sea” Block. The appeal of the “Storm at Sea” block has always been that it looks like curved piecing, but doesn’t have a single curve in it. We will explore how to use this design in multiple ways.
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Prerequisites: intermediate experience with patchwork
Materials: 4 or 5 coordinating Fat Quarters of your choice, neutral thread and bobbin, your sewing machine and User’s Manual
Price: $35, all additional materials included
Cathedral Window Quilt – One 4-Hour Session
Learn the techniques of how to make this extremely ornate folded quilt. This is a really unique quilt because its construction includes the quilting as you piece and Cathedral Window is also very portable, as it is assembled in sections. This also combines machine piecing with simple hand-stitching, which is a wonderful way to practice your hand-stitching. It is also a great quilt to use up scraps or charm packs. Learn this technique and you can make Cathedral Window into anything from a small ornament to a king size quilt.
Experience Level: Basic to Advanced
Prerequisites: basic experience with patchwork and ability to hand-stitch
Materials: Fabric for background, traditionally white or off-white, but any solid or tone-on-tone will do (During this class, a yard will be more than sufficient, but you may want more to make your quilt larger while at home. A good rule of thumb for Cathedral Window Quilt is 4 times as much fabric as the desired size of the finished product), neutral thread and bobbin, your sewing machine and User’s Manual, sewing needles of your preferred size, various charm packs or scraps that are no smaller than 3 inches square.

Mariner’s Compass Paper Piecing – Two 4-Hour Sessions
The Mariner’s Compass Quilt is one of the most envied quilts you could make. With paper piecing, the precision and accuracy is easily attained. This once only expert-level block is now within reach to the busy, contemporary quilter. This paper-piecing class will show you how to paper piece a classic 16-point Mariner’s Compass. This is a wonderful fat quarter quilt!
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Prerequisites: experience with patchwork and basic knowledge of paper-piecing
Materials: Fabric: 6 coordinating fat quarters for points (Generally, three different colors with two shades of each color is used. One could also do all the points in one color, with two shades. In that case, 1 fat quarter of both shades will still be plenty.), 1 extra fat quarter of fabric for background, neutral thread and bobbin, your sewing machine and User’s Manual.
