The Adventurer I & II

The Adventurer I & II

This was a fun one. My two cousins (sisters!) both were having their first babies (both daughters!) about three months apart. How Exciting!!! (I’m not going to tell you how old they are now….so how long ago these quilts were made…..but I will say this: They BOTH got the Quilts BEFORE the babies were born! Funny story about that in another post soon.)

These two designs were created together to be complimentary, but still unique in their own way. This features adorable panels, Crazy quilt shapes that were paper pieced and an “I Spy” poem to go with. The fabric was a mix of all things fun: you name it, it’s probably in there.

This one was for my cousin Erica’s baby. It had a pieced back, too. (Necessity is the mother of invention….I didn’t have enough of one fabric to back it it with.)

This one was for my cousin Mary’s baby. It was backed with a beautiful flannel.

Here are some details of them up close. The second photo is of the back of he center of one of the quilts. As you can see, this was a set-in seam with a fussy-cut center.

The crazy quilt pieces were a lot of fun to make. They definitely helped get through some stash fabrics. The paper piecing for the crazy quilt spots (I know, I know….paper piecing crazy quilts is totally cheating….but you gotta do what you gotta do.) made it go super quickly.

A lot of the fabric was odds and ends that I had in the stash for years and years. Some that I can easily identify for you are listed below.

One more fun fact about these two quilts!! I wrote the “I Spy” poems that go with them! Although both quilts had the same fabric in them, they did not necessarily have the same section of fabric in them, so both poems are different…..so the cousins can actually play “I Spy” on each other’s quilts together, but with the right poem for the quilt.
