With Every Stitch a Story: An Entire Quilt From Start to Finish, Part 6: Assembling the Quilt Top

Next step after assembling all of the blocks is to assemble the actual rows that make up the Quilt Top.

This was the layout (below) that I had come up with and labelled the blocks accordingly. To assemble the top, I needed to put the rows together. For instance, Blocks 2, 6, 10, 14, and 18 make up a row, along with two set in triangles. This quilt is assembled in such a way that’s called “On Point.” This refers to the fact that the rows aren’t set in a straight line, but on the diagonal. This changes the entire look of the quilt.

Okay, okay….I’ll put you out of your misery and give you one look at the completed top.

Above is the Assembled Quilt Top. It’s getting sandwiched in this photo….but more about that in the next post.

Biggest trick of assembling the rows? Pins, pins and more pins. You have to pin each block to the next to make sure the seams line up. I always start in the center and move my way out to the edges. This way, I can always adjust or ease seams as needed.
